A manual osteopath is a healthcare practitioner who specialises in manual therapy techniques to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal disorders and related issues
Assessment: Manual osteopaths use observation, interview and hands-on assessment techniques to identify areas of dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system, as well as any related issues in other body systems
Treatment: They employ a variety of manual techniques such as soft tissue manipulation, joint mobilization, stretching, cranial sacral, visceral techniques and exercise to list a few, to restore balance and function to the body.
Holistic Approach: Manual osteopaths often take a holistic approach, considering the interconnectedness of different parts of the body and how they contribute to overall health and well-being.
Patient Education: They may provide guidance on posture, ergonomics, exercise, and lifestyle modifications to help prevent future issues and support ongoing recovery.
Gentle and Non-invasive: Treatments are typically gentle and non-invasive, focusing on improving the body's ability to heal itself.
Multiple Sessions: Depending on the severity of the condition and individual response to treatment, multiple sessions may be required to achieve optimal results, typically weekly. This may vary though depending on the situation, some may be monthly or quarterly depending on needs of the client. It is very similar in nature to physiotherapy in treatment frequency, though the sessions are typically longer, 45 minutes to an hour.
